PP Bottle Status Analysis and Future Prediction

From the mid-1990s to the present, China has become the fastest-growing country in terms of global polypropylene consumption. The fast-growing consumer market has given rise to the upsurge of industrial investment in polypropylene. It is estimated that around the year of 2008, China's polypropylene industry will enter a new round of investment peak period, and nearly 6 million tons/year of production capacity will be put into operation one after another. Due to its high transparency, smoothness, and good processability, PP can be used to make a variety of beverage packaging containers in combination with other materials. In recent years, the application of beverage packaging has also been improved.

Currently, PP bottles are mainly molded in one-step injection blow blown (ISBM) and two-step heating blown blow (SBM) molding machines, which have the advantages of transparency, robustness, heat resistance, and lower prices than conventional materials.

1. The barrier property of PP to moisture is about 5 times that of PET. PP preform production equipment is less expensive than PET's preform production equipment.

2. Compared with PET, PP is 10%-30% cheaper than PET, 0.9g/cc is less than PET's density 1.35g/cc, PP bottle is lighter than PET bottle, and PP bottle is better than PET. The recycling time of the bottle is long, so the production cost is lower. 4. Studies have shown that the addition of 15% of a polyolefin prepared from a B/Metallocene catalyst in a blend of clear, silicone-free polypropylene can increase the impact strength of a PP bottle from 4.7 to 7.8 ft.

3.PP bottles can be hot-filled at 100°C. For example, fruit juices and jam products need to be packaged at this temperature. Normal PET bottles can not be filled at a temperature higher than 76°C for glass transition. BOPP bottles are widely used in functional beverage packaging because they can withstand temperatures above 100t2.

PP bottle development

PP bottles are slower than PET bottles, and their physical properties are relatively poor, making them not widely used. However, the ever-growing mechanical equipment, preform design, improved resins, and special auxiliaries have overcome these problems. With the successful development of the transparent modifier-nucleating agent, 0.1%-0.4% sorbitol xylylene (benzaldehyde) nucleating agent was added to common PP by blowing, blowing, injection and extrusion. Other methods can produce highly transparent PP bottles. The product can be widely used as fresh juice, dairy beverages, beverage bottles and the like.

PP bottles have good temperature resistance, flexible bottle design, excellent performance in terms of safety, hygiene and taste retention of the contents, and are cheaper than PET, PS, PE and other materials. The continuous development of modified resins, antireflection agents, and mechanical equipment technologies has enabled PP containers to replace glass, PET, and PVC containers, and has broad market prospects.

Therefore, we can predict that the PP bottle will become PET. Blow-molded bottles are a strong competitor in beverage packaging applications. PP bottles produced by extrusion blow molding can be used to package mineral water and beverages, while PP bottles produced from stretch blow molds are mainly used for water, isobaric water and Sports drinks packaging. Manufacturers of FIP and related product manufacturers are overcoming PP's shortcomings. PP bottles have been used in the beverage packaging market as PET bottles have gradually become more widely used.

PET bottles are the mainstream of beverage packaging. At present, the leading position in beverage packaging materials in China should be PET pellets, so PET bottle blowing technology, PET hot filling, sub-hot filling technology, and nowadays PET cold aseptic filling technology, these three Technology has promoted the vigorous development of global PET bottled beverages, becoming the most successful packaging technology revolution after the packaging forms such as glass bottles, aseptic carton, and composite packaging. To date, no better or better substitutes for PET have been found. In the carbonated beverage, water and beer markets, there is no market for paper packaging. In the juice market, the market share is higher than that of paper composite containers. PET bottles have the characteristics of large capacity, light weight, portability, refrigerating, robustness, and recyclability, which provide a broad prospect for the development of the beverage packaging industry.
