Simple selection of overvoltage protectors    

The first step is to determine the voltage level.

It is best to choose based on the nominal voltage of the system, which is usually referred to as the bus voltage. Common system nominal voltage is three, 6kV, 10kV, 35kV. Other voltage levels only occur occasionally.   

The second step is to determine the structural characteristics of the overvoltage protector .

The gap is better than no gap, except for the plateau (above 2000m altitude). The RC structure is better than the zinc oxide structure, except for capacitor protection. The third step is to determine the object of protection.

Type A is a weak insulation type protection (such as protection motor, some manufacturers call D type) B type TBP overvoltage protection device is a conventional electrical protection (such as protection transformer, some manufacturers call S type, Z type or P type) C Type is high energy impact protection (such as protective capacitor, some manufacturers call R type)     The fourth step is to determine the place of use. Indoor type: used in switch cabinets, requiring small size and good neutral insulation. Outdoor type: used in the open air inside the station, requiring large size and high anti-pollution flash capability.
