The annual BAKU MEBEL exhibition has been successfully held for 4 sessions. As one of the highest quality furniture exhibitions in Azerbaijan and Central Asia , it attracts famous furniture manufacturers from around the world every year. Azerbaijan is located in the Central Asian Caucasus with a population of 8.436 million. In 2006, Azerbaijan’s total domestic GDP reached US$14 billion from January to September, an increase of 34% compared with the same period last year. According to official data, industry's share of GDP reached 71.4%. The Azerbaijani government expects total GDP this year will reach 20.6 billion US dollars, and in 2007 is expected to continue to grow 26.3% to reach 24.66 billion US dollars. Azerbaijan remains a huge attraction for international capital investment. The total investment is expected to reach $6.55 billion. Azerbaijan’s trade volume in the first nine months of 2006 was $8.6 billion, of which $2.1 billion was from the CIS countries and 6.5 billion from other countries. The main trading countries are Italy, Turkey, Russia, Israel, China, Iran, Britain, Germany, Ukraine, and Poland.
From January to July 2006, the Azerbaijan furniture industry grew by 63.4%, mainly from household furniture, office furniture and other special furniture. The domestic furniture sofa industry in Azerbaijan is also on the rise. The rapid development of the local furniture industry has driven the development of related equipment, technology, and furniture parts industry. Among them, the main exporters include: Germany, Italy, Poland, Russia and Turkey. There are more than 400 furniture companies and sales outlets in the capital and major cities of Azerbaijan, forming a national network of furniture and spare parts production and sales.
