Analysis of China's Periodical Publishing and Printing Operations in 2011

In 2011, a total of 9849 journals were published nationwide, a decrease of 0.4% compared with 2010; the total number of prints was 3.29 billion, an increase of 2.2%; the total number of printed sheets was 19.27 billion, an increase of 6.4%; the total price was 23.84 billion yuan, an increase of 9.5%. The journal publishing achieved operating income of 16.26 billion yuan, an increase of 8.0%; the added value was 15.24 billion yuan, an increase of 114.2%; the total profit was 2.29 billion yuan, an increase of 23.8%.

The journals are divided into five categories according to content: comprehensive, philosophy and social sciences, natural science and technology, cultural education and literature and art.

The total number of journals in the comprehensive journals accounted for 7.7% of the journals, ranking fifth, 4.9 percentage points lower than in 2010; 37.5% lower, and the growth rate ranked fifth. The total printed card accounted for 6.6% of the journal, ranking fifth; compared with 2010, it decreased by 4.0 percentage points; it decreased by 33.9%, and the growth rate ranked fifth.

The total number of journals in the philosophical and social sciences accounted for 42.3% of the journals, ranking by 5.1 percentage points; the growth rate was 16.1%, and the growth rate ranked third. The total number of printed cards accounted for 37.3% of the journals; it was reduced by 1.6 percentage points; the growth rate was 2.1%, and the growth rate ranked fourth.

The total number of journals in natural science and technology journals accounted for 14.8% of the journals, ranking third, up 0.2 percentage points; increasing by 3.5%, ranking fourth in growth rate. The total printed Zhang accounted for 19.7% of the journals, ranking third, up 1.4 percentage points; increasing by 14.5%, ranking third in growth rate.

The total number of prints in cultural and educational journals accounted for 23.9% of the journals, ranking second, up 4.9 percentage points; increasing by 28.7%, ranking second in growth rate. The total printed Zhang accounted for 25.6% of the journals, ranking second, up 7.1 percentage points; increasing by 47.1%, the growth rate was in place.

The total number of literary and art journals accounted for 11.3% of the journals, ranking fourth, up 2.9 percentage points; an increase of 37.5%, the growth rate. The total number of prints accounted for 10.9% of the journals, ranking fourth, up by 3.0 percentage points; increasing by 46.5%, ranking second in growth rate.
