As the saying goes, "Glass in the chaos of the world, Shengshi play collection." In the spring of 2012, classical furniture and palace royal treasures once again become the focus, but also increasingly sought after by the Tibetan world. After several auctions, all of them were sold well, and their positive rise is still not to be ignored.

Not afraid of floating clouds

——2012 classical furniture after spring photography

Text / Cheng Xiang Chen Shengyu

Around the 20th of June, the 2012 spring auction will be closed. Throughout the spring season, due to the low financial market and real estate market, the number of spring shots has been reduced, the scale has been reduced, but still shows the "prosperous rational" attitude and good development prospects, with Tibetan In the summary of the "green barley falling wood", that is, "not afraid of floating clouds to cover the eyes", meaning that the short-term downturn of spring photography, it is difficult to block the sight of classical furniture to continue to ascend.

From Christie's overseas to domestic Guardian

The performance of classical furniture in the auction should start from the overseas auction. Most of the most important auctions of overseas furniture come from Christie's. From the furniture specials of Christie's over the years, we can see:

In 1996, the first furniture special, "Important Chinese Furniture - (San Francisco) China Classical Furniture Museum," 107 pieces of the lot of transactions, a bright yellow huanghuali marble screen screen, set a high price of 1 million US dollars At that time, the highest record of Chinese classical furniture. Then in 1998, it was still Christie's in New York, and a group of Ming Dynasty huanghuali screens shot $1.1 million.

At the same time as the completion of the transaction, Christie's also introduced the beautiful and elegant Chinese furniture to the whole world, which caused a strong response in the western countries. Today, the earliest classical furniture research monographs are published by overseas research enthusiasts. In this process, it is inseparable from the promotion of the auction house headed by Christie's.

At the 2012 Spring Auction, Christie's re-emerged in the auction of classical furniture: Christie's "Important Chinese Porcelain and Crafts (I and II)" in New York, launched more than 30 pieces of classical furniture, including a "Ming Ming The preliminary yellow pear painting case, won the first prize of the audience with a transaction price of 7.58 million yuan.

As the earliest domestic furniture special exhibition in China, Guardian () has developed into a market vane. Since the "Shuishuishan House of Ming and Qing Dynasties Furniture" special in 1995, Guardian has held 10 special auctions of classical furniture (Figure 1), which has played an important role in promoting domestic furniture auctions.

China Guardian is also the first auction event in China every year. Other auction houses tend to adjust the auction according to Guardian's auction results, which means that Guardian's wind vane has become a benchmark in the industry.

From miscellaneous to special shooting

After the 12th piece of furniture in China's Jiadechun filming “Shengshi Yaji – Qing Dynasty Palace Rosewood Furniture” hit a new high in 2008, the Ming and Qing furniture auctions in the Chinese market have had a new look since 2009, and many classics have appeared. A lot of auctions have created new records for furniture auctions. Hong Kong Sotheby's (microblogging) 2009 spring shoot launched "the ancient rhyme - the ancient collection of Ming Dynasty royal furniture", New York Sotheby's Spring and Autumn shoots launched Sackler collection furniture, Beijing Hanhai autumn shoot "Ming "Clean furniture special shots" and so on have set off a huge social effect.

The fall of 2010-2011 is a period in which domestic classical furniture is concentrated. “Simple and Timeless – Ming-style Huanghuali Furniture Boutique” (China Guardian, Autumn 2010), “Chinese Classical Furniture Night” (Beijing Poly, Spring 2011), “Yao Huang Wei Zi – Ming and Qing Classical Furniture” (China Guardian) , Autumn 2011), "Special Auction of Classical Furniture in the Ming and Qing Dynasties" (Nanjing Zhengda, Spring 2010), etc. In the past two years, under the guidance of the auction of Guardian as the vane, the domestic classical furniture auction gradually formed an atmosphere.

By 2012, from the point of view of the importance of furniture by major auction houses, classical furniture has completely got rid of the status of “miscellaneous” and ushered in a number of “special events” of its own (see Figure 2).

From the table, we can see that in addition to the special furniture auctions held by China Guardian and Beijing Poly Auction House, some up-and-coming talents have begun to pay attention to the classical furniture auction market, and take a different approach to individualized and regionalized routes to form their own furniture. Auction features. For example, since the establishment of Nanjing Zhengda, it has focused on opening up the furniture auction market. So far, it has successfully held 8 auctions of classical furniture and gradually established influence. In the spring of 2012, it launched the “Music in the East” classical furniture of Ming and Qing Dynasties. The furniture has 121 pieces. In 2012, Beijing willing to auction the “Chinese Ming and Qing dynasty huanghuali, mahogany furniture” special, 89 pieces of furniture. Beijing Biography is auctioning and launching “The Best of Everything – Huanghuali Boutique”, 102 pieces of furniture, with a total turnover of 53.75 million yuan and a turnover rate of 93.14%. Beijing Xuanhe Auction launched the “Paintings of Ming and Qing Dynasties Furniture” and 84 pieces of furniture. Yunnan Collection launched “Wuyun Chunhua – Huanghuali Jinsi Nanmu Furniture”, and the entire site of 21 pieces of furniture 100% transactions, the total turnover of 16.69 million yuan, Jin Sina furniture became the 2012 highlights.

From the mixed dragon to the branding effect

From the spring shoot of 2012, the brand effect of classical furniture auction has been very obvious:

The branding of the auction company: "Gard's huanghuali, Poly's rosewood", this is a sentence circulating in the collectors, the meaning is very obvious, see Huanghuali furniture depends on China Guardian, see the rosewood furniture should pay attention to Beijing Poly. Most of the record-making furniture on the classical furniture auction was created by the two auction companies. For example, 10 pieces of furniture that broke records between 2004 and 2012, there are 4 pieces of Chinese Guardian and 3 pieces of Beijing Poly.

Special branding: In the autumn of 1995, China Guardian and Hong Kong film director Li Hanxiang created a special "Clear Water Mountain House Ming and Qing Furniture", which is also the first private collection in China. The Chinese Guardian word and Li Hanxiang's fan, attracted many collectors at a time, and the atmosphere was bursting. There are 19 pieces of huanghuali furniture in 28 pieces, among which the Ming Dynasty "Huanghualimu with mud pedestal" won the first prize of 880,000 yuan. The furniture specials on the spring of 2012, the first section of this article has been listed, not to repeat here.

The branding of collectors: Whether it is the collectors who sent the photos or the collectors who bought the furniture at the auction, they are becoming more and more branded. The most eye-catching 12 pieces of furniture in China's Guardian Spring 2012, namely the famous British antique dealer Dennis O Eskenazzi. Prior to this, there were also "reading the hearts of the people - the Ming Ming style furniture", "the 15th anniversary of the creation of the home-made machine",

The special auctions of individual collectors such as “Qingshuishanfang Ming and Qing Dynasties Furniture” and “Gumutang Tibetan Ming and Qing Furniture Specials” have achieved brilliant results due to clear sources and inheritance.

Collectors: It’s getting worse and worse.

It is not difficult to see from this year's major spring shoots that the art collectors group has become more mature and scaled up. Both individual buyers and institutional buyers are very professional. They have their own calm thinking and grasp on the valuation of the market. They have their own judgments on the choice of the lot, the ideal price, not blindly follow the trend, and pay more attention to value for money. Have an academic collection.

China Guardian "Shengri Fanghua · Ming and Qing Dynasties Classical Furniture Collection" special part of the first part of the "eyes" - Huanghua pear straight back carved eagle stone figure chair, although no serious, but the leg metal joints are damaged, the deal The price is only 3.22 million yuan. Overall, the furniture pieces displayed in this section have no stunning effect on the audience. The transaction status is relatively average and only falls on the valuation. On the contrary, the atmosphere in the second part is more active. Most of the auctions are priced at a price that is estimated to be doubled to twice the price. Among them, Huanghua Pear has no high-priced price of 5.75 million yuan, and is much higher than the valuation.

A big part of this is because the collectors look at the furniture in place, and it is getting worse and worse, being able to distinguish furniture that is worth collecting.

“It’s a sincerity, you must remember”, no matter the big crocodile in the financial field, or the well-tested collectors, they all start to call for artistic return, cherish the orderly fine furniture, and have a milestone in art history and history. Masterpieces, these classical furniture with high artistic value, rare world and reliable sources often compete for high transaction prices, while some of the more common furniture are not sold at a high price, reflecting that collection and investment have gradually returned to the value level of art. .

Famous boutiques are still strong

Although the 2012 spring auction was slightly depressed, there is a phenomenon that is applicable in all art auctions: that is, regardless of the economic situation and the market atmosphere, the famous boutiques are always unaffected and still strong. In particular, those auctions that are well-received and have clear origins are more prominent in the market downturn. The same is true for the 2012 furniture spring auction. The high-end auction has a good performance, has a strong absorption capacity, and is also the most dangerous, and the turnover is still gratifying.

In the special session of China Guardian "Shengri Fanghua - Ming and Qing Classical Furniture Collection (3)", a total of 4 pieces of furniture were launched, all of which are collected by Hong Kong's famous collectors Hong Jiansheng and Wang Jiaqi. The pieces are all heavyweight collections. 1 piece of flow, 3 pieces of high-priced transactions, turnover reached 61.87 million yuan. "Huanghuali single board big squat case", the single board is the biggest highlight, shooting 32.2 million yuan; "the early Qing dynasty three sand screens smashed the surrounding Luohan bed" transaction price of 20.7 million yuan; "early early huanghuali èž dragon pattern ten The second fan screen is easy to master with 8.97 million yuan.

Christie's still pays attention to furniture in the spring of 2012. Christie's in New York launched 37 pieces of classical furniture in the "Important Chinese Porcelain and Craftsmanship (I and II)". The "Yellow Pear Paintings in the Late Ming Dynasty and the Early Qing Dynasty" won the first prize of RMB 7.58 million. Christie's Hong Kong has launched 13 pieces of Ming and Qing antique furniture in the “Important Chinese Porcelain and Crafts Specials”. Among them, 10 pieces of selected Huanghuali furniture from many famous private collections, and finally “The Ming and Qing Dynasties Huanghuali four-column shelves” The bed won the first prize with RMB 8 million.

Another example is Beijing Poly's “Shenxiang Carving Xianshan Pavilion with Western-style mirror screen”, which was sent by European collectors. The whole instrument is made of Xizhen’s agarwood, which is made of large materials, and it is very skillful. Starting from RMB 5.2 million, it quickly bid to more than 10 million yuan and finally sold it at RMB 20.7 million, thus breaking the Chinese agarwood art auction record.

2012 spring shoot no leaks

In the autumn of 2011, the filming was cold, which led to the “excellent route” of the major auctions. Therefore, the 2012 spring auction was very exciting, and many heavyweights received much attention. There was almost no chance of “missing”.

Before the spring auction, the major auction houses opened up channels, selected rare and rare items through overseas collections, well-known collectors, etc., and added ulterior motives in the auction site to increase the attention of the specials, so each of the 2012 spring shoots The final turnover and turnover rate of the special show all show "value for money", not high and not exaggerated.

China Guardian 2012 Spring Auction "Shengri Fanghua·Ming and Qing Classical Furniture Collection" was widely watched by the industry. Many pieces were sold at a high price of RMB 10 million. The final result was a successful completion of RMB 170 million. The turnover ratio was as high as 94%. Hong Kong Christie's 2012 Spring Auctions received HK$2.73 billion. The three auctions of China's porcelain and crafts boutiques totaled 4.1841 billion yuan, with a turnover rate of 70%. The total turnover of China Poly "court art and important porcelain crafts" was 273.314 million yuan, and the turnover rate reached 77.02%. Beijing Biography is a special event of “Good Quality, Huanghua Pear Boutique”, with a turnover of 53.834 million yuan and a turnover rate of 94.06%. As can be seen from these auction data, the results of the 2012 spring auction of classical furniture are still quite satisfactory. Of course, there are some auctions that do not have a high turnover. For example, China Poly's "court art and important porcelain crafts" specialized in the launch of a total of 8 pieces of furniture, 4 shots, the turnover rate is only 50%. The reason for this is that on the one hand, the high-end auctions continue to have a high boom. On the one hand, the collectors are getting more and more refined, only the fine products are recognized, and the singles of the general goods are determined.

In summary, the 2012 spring shoots show calmness and unsatisfactory calmness. “No leaks can be described” also illustrates the healthy and stable market of buyers and sellers, showing the calmness and caution of the current market. When the boom retreats and the clouds are gone, the classical furniture auction market will tend to be healthier and “rational prosperity”.
