The Making of Sefte®: Discover the story from concept to creation

Behind every successful product lies a fascinating story, and the development of our new Sefte® air circulator range is no different. Countless hours of effort, thoughtfulness, and attention to detail went into bringing Sefte® to life. We’re excited to take you through every intricate step of its creation, from its initial concept to the final masterpiece.

But before we dive into the nitty-gritty, let’s meet the brilliant minds behind this incredible project: Rich, Matt, and Adam. These engineers have been part of our journey since the beginning, working closely with us on projects like the award-winning MeacoDry Arete® One Dehumidifier and Air Purifier range. Now, they’ve brought their expertise to Sefte®.

“Our aim was to push the boundaries of performance while ensuring that the product remains user-friendly and visually appealing,” says Rich Gilbert, Design Engineer. “We tested and refined every detail until we struck the perfect balance between performance, functionality, and aesthetics.”

Chris Michael, our Managing Director, collaborated closely with the design team to incorporate every piece of customer feedback we’ve gathered over the past five years. This ensured that Sefte® was built with real-world needs in mind.

Mission from Day One

Sefte® is the result of three years of meticulous research and design iteration. When Chris Michael set out on this journey in Spring 2021, his vision was clear: create an air circulator that propelled more air, produced less noise, and consumed less energy. Achieving this balance wasn’t easy, but through careful planning, customer insights, creative design, and a willingness to experiment, we succeeded in creating a revolutionary product.

The outcome? A cutting-edge range of air circulators that we believe sets a new benchmark in the air treatment industry. Let’s explore the journey that got us here.

Listening to the Customers

To ensure Sefte® met our customers’ expectations, we began by diving deep into the feedback we’d received for our popular MeacoFan 1056 range. What did customers love? What frustrated them? Engaging directly with our Customer Service team was essential, as they provided invaluable insights into the everyday challenges users faced with our existing products.

Through this analysis, we uncovered common pain points and used them as the foundation for developing new features. Gary, one of our valued customers, expressed frustration with the remote control on the 1056 air circulator—it was tough to read the buttons at night. This feedback inspired us to create a glowing remote control that’s both functional and user-friendly.

From Problem to Solution

Another issue we tackled was the remote control’s connection reliability. On the 1056 Pedestal air circulator, the display and remote receiver were located at the base of the fan. If an obstruction like a sofa or bed got in the way, the remote wouldn’t function properly. Our solution? Moving the display just below the fan head. This ensures the remote works seamlessly regardless of where you’re positioned, and the display is easy to read from anywhere in the room.

We also added a minus button to make adjusting the fan speed more efficient. This small change addressed a common complaint from users who found it frustrating to cycle through all 12 fan speeds just to lower the setting by one.

Control with Precision

One of the most innovative features of Sefte® is Air Beam Precision. This allows users to select from three different oscillation ranges—narrow, medium, and wide—to suit their specific needs. Whether you're cooling a single person in bed, a group on the sofa, or the entire room, Air Beam Precision gives you full control over airflow direction. The narrow beam is perfect for couples sharing a bed, the medium beam suits family gatherings, and the wide beam ensures whole-room cooling.

A Taller, Sturdier Fan

Height was another area where we improved upon the 1056 Pedestal. Many users with larger beds or high dining tables found the fan head didn’t reach a height that delivered the desired cooling effect. To solve this, we designed a fan that stands over a meter tall (approximately 1.09 meters), ensuring it reaches above most furniture. Stability was equally important, so we focused on balancing the fan's weight distribution. The result? A robust design with a strong PowerPole and weighted base, ensuring the fan stays upright even at its maximum height.

Effortless Adjustments

We also wanted to minimize the need for constant adjustments. The addition of a Pause button lets users easily stop the fan head at their desired position without getting up to reposition the fan. This feature significantly enhances user experience, allowing Sefte® owners to enjoy precise airflow without hassle.

Trial and Error: The Path to Perfection

No product is perfect on the first try, and Sefte® was no exception. Our designers embraced a continuous cycle of trial, error, adjustment, and repeat. Each concept was 3D printed, tested, analyzed, and refined until we achieved the desired results. This iterative process led to numerous innovations that are now integral parts of the Sefte® design.

Ultimately, we achieved our goals of 'More air. Less noise. Less energy.' Sefte® moves an impressive 19m³ of air per minute, operates quietly at just 25dB, and consumes minimal energy, costing as little as 0.1p/hour. It’s a testament to the dedication and creativity of everyone involved.

The Perfect Name

With the design finalized and testing complete, the final touch was naming our new range. We wanted a name that reflected the essence of Sefte®—quiet, gentle, and undisturbed. When we discovered the Old English word 'Sefte,' meaning 'quiet, gentle, and undisturbed,' we knew it was the perfect choice.

  • Quiet: At just 25dB, Sefte® is quieter than a whisper, ensuring a peaceful environment.
  • Gentle: The fan’s sound harmonics are as soothing as its volume.
  • Undisturbed: Sefte® won’t disrupt your sleep, making it ideal for those who value a restful night.

And so, Sefte® was born—a range of air circulators that embodies innovation, comfort, and efficiency. We hope you love it as much as we do.
