Japanese researchers developed a new technology in May 2003 that could double the strength of concrete and save half the cost.
This new technology produces an insoluble crystal at room temperature by allowing a silicon-containing inorganic aqueous solution to infiltrate the concrete surface and react with calcium, magnesium, etc. in the concrete. As the tiny holes inside the crystal protection layer are blocked, rainwater, salt, etc. cannot penetrate, which greatly delays the deterioration of the concrete, thereby contributing to extending the service life of the building.
