Bonding Technology of Metal Sheet Sandwich Structures

The sandwich structure is composed of two thin skin materials separated by a light core. Sandwich structure is light in weight, high in strength and rigidity, sound-absorbing, and heat-insulating. It is widely used in aviation, construction, shipbuilding and other industries. The outer skin of sandwich structure is usually made of metal sheet, honeycomb structure or low-density plastic, and the core is made of glued joints. Technology manufactures and assembles sandwich structures.
Adhesive process is as follows:

(1) The metal sheet is first punched with a 0.2-0.3mm orifice (for solvent removal) and then pressed through two grooved rollers to form a crest band, and then the protruding face of the wave crest is coated with adhesive. After curing, the wave band is superimposed and heated and cured under pressure to form a honeycomb sandwich. The main use of phenolic - acetal adhesive or phenolic - nitrile fine adhesive.

(2) The honeycomb sandwich can also be manufactured by stretching: After the metal sheet is punched, the adhesive is applied by a roller. The width of the adhesive layer is the same as the length of the honeycomb side, and the distance between the tapes is twice the width of the adhesive layer. Adhesives on both sides of the metal sheet should be staggered. The sheets are then laminated together and heated under pressure to cure.

(3) Infiltrate the adhesive on the end face of the honeycomb core, or use an adhesive film to stick on the outer skin. Then use a vacuum bag or a compressed air bag to glue the upper and lower outer skins and the honeycomb core together, pressurize and heat to solidify. -acetal-silicone adhesives, hydroxymethyl polyamide adhesives or films.
