International BIR Announces Third-Quarter Waste Paper Market

The International Bureau of Waste Paper Recycling and Recycling (BIR) announced the situation of the waste paper market in the third quarter.

United States:

Due to the terrorist attacks on September 11, it is impossible to predict the development of the domestic waste paper market. The production of waste paper in the third quarter was lower than the level of the same period in normal years, and therefore the price improvement was also limited. The domestic waste paper consumption has also been reduced accordingly.

In the first seven months of this year, waste paper exports rose by 7% to 6.188 million tons, mixed waste paper shipments rose by 18% to 1.954 million tons, and old corrugated boxes rose by 15% to 1.78 million tons. Old newspaper shipments remained stable. Pulp substitute replacement shipments fell 15% to 381,499 tons, and high-grade deinking pulp decreased 5% to 632,285 tons. The volume of waste paper exported to China and India increased while the volume of shipments from other U.S. traditional markets decreased.

The recent inquiry into old corrugated boxes has declined and the external demand for old newspapers has been strong. As the coastal freight company considers charging additional fees for emergency containers, it casts a shadow over the outlook for waste paper shipments.
