North American special film market grows rapidly

After several years of product structure adjustment, the special film industry has reached an unprecedented level and meets the demand for final products and the rapidly changing demand. The market maintains a rapid growth trend. Many companies have invested through major capital investment, mergers and acquisitions, or joint ventures or companies. Patent licensing agreements and other methods have greatly strengthened their competitive strength.

In the North American plastics industry, the $2 billion dedicated film market remains bright and is expected to continue to maintain a two-digit growth rate for the foreseeable future. These films have some special functional properties: heat resistance, resistance to damage, dielectric properties, solvent and moisture resistance, and gas barrier properties. The demand for it is mainly due to the fact that these high-performance films are determined in terms of improving product performance, processing effects, and ultimate cost savings. In the plastics industry, the average profit derived from special films is higher, because their average price is higher, generally more than 15 US dollars/kg, and the specified price of some individual film products is even more than 50 US$/kg.

Forecasting the future of the special film industry, the growth rate in many market sectors exceeds the expected annual growth rate of 12% for the entire industry. It is estimated that there are several application areas, and in the next five years, the annual growth rate of more than 35%, specifically appears in:

- Advanced base PET film in plasma and liquid crystal display (LCD) screens as flat panel technology targeting CRT (Cathode Ray Tube).

-- The color photography technology adopted by the reflective screen display film, which has increased demand due to the increase in global terrorist activities.

-- Non-invasive tests can be performed on medical diagnostic tapes performed on human skin.

- Tough and flexible polyvinyl butyral (PVB) interlayer, which is used as a safety membrane in hurricane glass to meet the legislative requirements of coastal areas under trial.

-- Provide advanced holographic images and bar coded PET film that can be used in credit cards and consumer products to prevent growing consumer fraud.

- Nano-synthetic films made from nylon, polyester and polypropylene for barrier packaging applications.

- Fluoropolymer film for proton exchange membranes in fuel cell technology.

- Internal plastic labels made of polycarbonate and acrylics provide a large number of customized features for cell phones and automotive parts at a lower cost.

-- Metallized film with EMI/RFI protection cover as a cost-effective alternative to traditional coatings for automated and commercial devices.
