New development of environmentally friendly packaging

Environmental Packaging Principles Environmental packaging refers to the need to take into account environmental considerations when designing a product's packaging, thereby improving the packaging's environmental impact and achieving waste reduction and preservation of natural resources. Fang Zhanliang, chief consultant of the Environmental Management Department of the Hong Kong Productivity Council, stated that the basic guidelines for product packaging should be:
· Provide sufficient strength to protect the product · Product can be stored within a specified time · Improve the performance of the environment · Can save costs · Reduce excess and excess packaging to avoid waste · Avoid using toxic or hazardous packaging materials · Should be designed And the use of recyclable materials · The use of remanufactured materials to save natural resources · To replace diversified materials with a single material in order to recycle · Standardize the same or similar packaging and specifications in the scope of packaging, can also be divided into transport Packaging and consumer product packaging. To achieve environmental protection, plastic pallets should be considered instead of wooden pallets in the process of transport packaging, but polyethylene film packaging should be avoided; the dimensions of the packaging box should be standardized, and remanufactured or bioreducible materials should be used. As for consumer product packaging, it should be based on protective products. There should be no fancy packaging and materials that are harmful or difficult to decompose, and the packaging capacity should be reduced to save materials, space and costs. Nor should the package be designed in an irregular shape.
Environmental packaging has become the future direction. With the strengthening of environmental protection laws, the thorough implementation of green labels and the implementation of green images of products and companies, environmental protection packaging will become more popular.
Restricting heavy metal content Li Fengmei, senior manager of Hong Kong General Surveyor’s Co., Ltd., also agreed that environmental protection packaging is a general trend. Europe, the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada have established legislation on environmentally friendly packaging that restricts the content of heavy metals in packaging materials. In Europe, since 1998, EU member states have implemented 94/62/EC regulations to reduce the total metal content of lead, cadmium, mercury, and chromium VI to 100 ppm per year. In June 2001, the legislation on restrictions on constraining northeastern governors (CONEG)/United States on packaging toxins was the same. In the United States, 18 states have adopted the legislation of the Union of Northeast Governors. The purpose of this legislation is to ensure that the packaging is suitable for re-collection, reuse, recycling, energy and organic recovery, to minimize the toxicity and danger of the packaging and the impact on the environment, and to reduce the weight of packaging waste on the other hand. And the volume is minimized.
In many heavy metal materials, the composition of cadmium is most limited. Cadmium is a harmful metal that can pose a serious hazard to the natural environment. Cadmium is mainly used as a plastic stabilizer and pigment or electroplating chemical material. It can produce film, fluorescent lamps and gypsum. However, cadmium does not decompose and is accumulated on the soil and then absorbed by the plants and transmitted to the human body. Even small quantities of cadmium can cause kidney damage.
In order to reduce human exposure to this hazardous metal, many countries, such as the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, and the European Union, have set regulations and guidelines to limit the use of cadmium and its compounds. In order to comply with international trends, the Netherlands officially increased the limit of cadmium content from 50 ppm to 100 ppm in June 1999.
To cope with the cadmium test, the Hong Kong General Surveyor will adopt advanced instrument XRF method for analysis of cadmium content. XRF testing can provide fast, reliable, and accurate results. In addition, the Dutch government also plans to include the XRF method in its cadmium guidelines. Li Fengmei believes that the packaging in the future will develop toward the direction of saving, reusing, recycling, and paying off.
In the future, it is necessary to make a clear understanding of the future. Zheng Bingguo, the first president of the Hong Kong Packaging Professional Association, made a prediction on the future of packaging. As people in the industry are increasingly demanding environmentally-friendly packaging, the company's certification of environmental protection will be a favorable condition for value-added, which will drive the demand for ISO 14000.
In addition, environmental protection packaging will focus on design concepts. The selection of materials, color matching, and logistics steps are all factors to consider. From the point of view of single logistics, there are many ways to transport goods, and the packaging involved in transportation is not the same. Therefore, packaging should be designed from the starting point of purpose and function.
In the end, it is the continuous improvement of technology. Take the paper industry as an example. The past was made from the point of view of the explosion force, and now ECT technology is becoming more and more popular. Nike's previously used shoe box packaging is a double-pit box. After the switch to ECT two years ago, the overall transportation cost was saved by 10%. Plus, pure paper was used instead of corrugated paper for printing. As a result, the company's overall cost was further reduced.
In addition, the new technology has also developed miniature pits (or F pits). The higher density and flattening of the paper will help reduce transportation costs; water can be recycled in 100%, as existing companies in Taiwan can produce recycled paper. Instead of producing black water during wastewater treatment, microorganisms are added to the wastewater to consume the pollutants. The cost of these methods is certainly more expensive, but in the long run, it will help both the environment and the company's costs.
In conclusion, Zheng Bingguo stated that to develop environmentally friendly packaging, the primary condition is to start with civic education, followed by attention to the development of other industries, because the technological improvements in their industries can provide impetus and insight for their own industries. For example, in the rubber industry, tires are crushed and mixed into concrete, which can be used as materials for building bridges.
