At present, Australia only has South Australia's paid recycling system for beverage cans. This system will also be implemented in the northern region next year. This system stipulates that sending a beverage bottle to the recycle bin will receive a dime. Australians will soon be rewarded with money for recycling beverage cans and beverage bottles.
Federal Environment Minister Garrett said that he and the states and regions’ environment ministers agreed today to report on whether or not the system will be implemented nationwide. He said that this report may not be completed within six months, but he hopes to complete it within one year.
Environmental groups welcomed the move and said that the paid recycling system for beverage cans is the best way to encourage people to recycle.
