SpaceClaim Japan has released a feature enhancement of the new version of "SpaceClaim 2016", a 3D-CAD software "SpaceClaim" (SpaceClaim, USA). Two functions have been strengthened, one is the 3D model editing function premised on the 3D printer, and the other is the 3D model based on the shape of the input such as the 3D scanner.
Let me introduce the first feature first. These include the repair function of eliminating holes and self-intersections for the model, and the function of filling the interior of the model with a grid structure in order to achieve weight reduction inside the model. In addition, the Shrinkwrap function can be used. For a combination of multiple components, the components can be integrated and the internal space and gap can be filled while maintaining their shape (Fig. 1).
Regarding the second function, the new version is designed for reverse engineering, and the 3D model generation function is enhanced. The 3D model can be generated based on the triangular patches (collection of polygons) input by the 3D scanner and the modeling of the 3D printer. Detailed modeling can be performed based on these data by automatically applying free curves, planes, cylindrical surfaces, spheres, and free-form surfaces to the surface of the triangular surface. Further, a part of the triangular patch can be divided and the surface shape of the portion can be depicted as a free curved surface (Fig. 2).
In addition, this time, the function of inputting data of a printed circuit board by electronic CAD is also enhanced. The purpose of this function is to transfer data using CAE tools such as structural analysis and thermal fluid analysis. In addition, the new version can also be linked to the CAE tools "ANSYS Mechanical" and "ANSYS Icepak" acquired by ANSYS of SpaceClaim in 2014. Further, as a function of transmitting data to the CAE tool, a function of connecting the gaps between the components constituting the assembly model is also provided. At the same time, it also considers the need to perform detailed analysis on a part of the assembly, and adds the function of cutting out part of the assembly model in the sphere or cuboid area (Fig. 3).
